North Devon (Westward Ho!) is the oldest course in England and Wales and is still playing over its original layout.
It is a challenging links in an exposed position, with multitudes of spiky rushes, naturally formed grassy mounds and deep bunkers.
The clubhouse at North Devon (Westward Ho!) includes a museum of golfing memorabilia. Alongside the rows of "elderly spoons" and "feather balls" are literature and art concerning the club and surrounding area. This includes descriptions of the club’s most famous son, J.H. Taylor, a five times Open Champion.
From the M5, take Junction 27 onto the A361 towards Barnstaple and then Bideford for approximately 45 miles. Travel over the River Torridge Bridge there follows a roundabout, take the third exit signposted A386 to Appledore & B3236 to Westward Ho! The course is signposted from here. |
