Pinehurst has hosted the US Open many times. The tournament has been played over the Pinehurst No.2 course with Michael Campbell winning in 2005, and the late Payne Stewart winning spectacularly in 1999.

Golf Academy

Pinehurst Golf Academy

The Pinehurst Golf Academy is set within the inspiring neighborhood of the famed No. 2 course at Pinehurst.

The Academy Centre comprises of indoor hitting bays for video analysis and club-fitting, a putting studio and classroom as well as a covered outdoor areas.

The adjacent full-swing and short-game areas offer 3 large practice greens and have been designed to offer the student an opportunity to practice full swing and short game situational shots found on the course.

The Academy Centre runs weekend and full week schools all of which include:

-A round of golf upon arrival

-A round of golf each day of instruction

-Access to indoor bays and a covered range

-Video swing analysis and club fitting

-Accommodations at Pinehurst Resort

-Breakfast, lunch and dinner each day

The PGA Team

Eric Alpenfels: Leading The Pinehurst Golf Academy is Eric Alpenfels, a Class A PGA of America professional who has been a part of the Pinehurst family since 1985. Recognised by Golf Magazine as one of the "Top 100 Teachers in America" and Golf Digest as one of "America's 50 Greatest Teachers."

Kelly Mitchum: A lead instructor and Class A member of the PGA of America, Kelly Mitchum has played professionally on the Nike Tour and the Canadian Tour. He was the 2003 and 2005 South Carolina Open champion and has played in 10 PGA Tour events, as well as the 2005 and 2006 PGA Championships.

Kelly McCall: Honoured by the Atlantic Coast Conference as one of the "Top 50 golfers of All Time," Kelly McCall has been a lead instructor at Pinehurst for six years. She is a Class A member of both the PGA and LPGA of America.

Paul McRae: Paul McRae is a Class A member of the PGA of America and a lead instructor at Pinehurst. He's taught LPGA tour players, has appeared on The Golf Channel and written instruction articles for Golf Magazine.

Geoff Lynch: Geoff has been involved with Pinehurst for nearly 20 years and continues to teach in addition to managing the club fitting and golf equipment operation of the famed resort.

The Mobil 4-star Spa at Pinehurst is a 31,000sq ft facility where you can escape, re-energize and indulge in more than 50 relaxing and refreshing treatments.

Pinehurst No. 4 was renovated by Tom Fazio and reopened in 2000. The greens are modern in design and there are over 140 pot bunkers to avoid from the tee and on approaches. The course offers some of the best scenery at Pinehurst.

Located a mile away from the Main Clubhouse, Pinehurst No. 7 was renovated in 2003. Located on some of the most rugged land around the Village of Pinehurst, the course has a mountainous feel. Designed by Rees Jones, noted for large undulating greens and spectacular scenery across the North Carolina countryside.

Pinehurst No. 9 is a magnificent course and is as meticulously designed as it is compelling. An intriguingly well-balanced course which, according to Golf Digest, “has come to enhance even the lofty Sandhills image for world-class golf amenities.”

Jack Nicklaus constructed a masterpiece set amidst the long leaf pines. This championship layout features classic Nicklaus architecture: wide fairways, lush course conditions and undulating putting surfaces that test your mind and your true golfing ability.

Each hole has been customized to create a great diversity in the way it can be played. Added to this uniqueness are tall pines, grassy swales, groomed waste areas and a natural variety of lakes and stream beds beautifully fashioned to give No. 9 its own distinctive look.

Pinehurst No. 2

Pinehurst No. 2 is one of the most famous courses in the world and a regular host of the US Open. It was the scene of Michael Campbell’s 2005 triumph and the late Payne Stewart won here famously in 1999. It will again host the US Open in 2014.

The raised greens and their run-off areas are the main feature on this Donald Ross-designed course. Change in elevation is also a key factor on this course with penal bunkers and pine trees giving the golfer a serious test.

Located around two miles from the main clubhouse, Pinehurst No.8 features raised greens with false fronts, dips, swales and run offs similar to No.2. Pinehurst No. 8 is an easy course to walk, with the greens and following tee boxes near together.

The No.5 Course has more water hazards to negotiate than any other course at Pinehurst. The layout also features variety - uphill and downhill, left-to-right and right-to-left, long and short par fours. Overall, it is a very playable, enjoyable 18 holes.
