Whistling Straits - Straits Course
Par: 72
Length: 7362 yards
Course designer: Pete Dye
Venue: USPGA Championship, 2020 Ryder Cup
|
Open, rugged and windswept terrain defines the walking-only, links-style Straits Course sculpted along two miles of Lake Michigan shoreline.
The Straits Course is modelled on British and Irish links courses and features vast rolling greens, deep pot bunkers, grass-topped dunes and winds that sweep in off the lake.
At 7,514 yards, it is the second longest course to host a major. It also has more than 1100 bunkers, only 10% of which are sculpted and raked. The rest appear more like waste areas but are classed as bunkers under the local rules – a fact which famously led to Dustin Johnson missing out on the 2010 PGA Championship playoff after he grounded his club in one on the 18th hole and was penalised two shots.
The seventeenth named “Pinched Nerve”, the unofficial signature hole, is the most difficult par-3 on the course. At 223 yards, with towering sand dunes and the lake to the left, golfers have no option but to go straight for the green.
The course also features eight holes hugging Lake Michigan, a flock of Scottish Blackface sheep, elevation changes of approximately 80 feet and three stone bridges at holes 9, 10 and 18.

Whistling Straits - Irish Course
Par: 72
Length: 7201 yards
Course designer: Pete Dye
|
Just inland from the great lake and interspersed by four meandering streams, the grassland-and-dunes aspect of the Irish Course is a deceivingly tranquil landscape.
It offers breathtaking views of Lake Michigan from holes 2, 8, 11, 12, and 13, along with a collection of short, challenging par 3s and risk-reward par 5s to test skill and nerve.
Sand is abundant throughout the course with much of it designated as waste area. Five sets of tees ensure it is playable for all skill levels.
Irish course at Whistling Straits was ranked no. 30 on Golf Digest's 2009 Top 100 Rating.
|
Blackwolf Run - Meadow Course
Par: 72
Length: 7210 yards
Course designer: Pete Dye
|
Blackwolf Run’s Meadow Course is a subtle and devilish layout that winds through meadows and charges across ravines, reflecting the natural features of the Wisconsin terrain.
Scores of bunkers and water areas shored with railroad ties complement the Scottish influences in Pete Dye's work.
Meadow Valleys was ranked no. 95 on Golf Digest's 2009 Top 100 Rating.

Blackwolf Run - River Course
Par: 72
Length: 7404 yards
Course designer: Pete Dye
Venue: US Women’s Open 2012

“Blackwolf Run's River course must be considered the nation's finest public-access course of modern times." – GOLF Magazine
