Local Area

Just 30 minutes from Kiawah Island, Charleston is America's most beautifully preserved architectural and historic treasure, with a rich, 300-year heritage. The first decisive American victory during the Revolution occurred at the Battle of Fort Sullivan. The first regularly scheduled passenger train service in America was established here in 1830. The initial shots of the Civil War were fired on Union troops stationed at Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor.

More recently, Charleston has evolved into one of the country's most popular cities including Conde Nast Traveler, who have named it the third top domestic destination.

Tennis

Year after year, the tennis programs at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, under the direction of Hall of Fame Tennis Pro Roy Barth, receive many of the sport's highest accolades, including being ranked #1 in the 2004-2005 list of 'Greatest U.S. Tennis Resorts' by Tennis Magazine! Come to Kiawah Island and experience tennis at its finest.

In addition to clay and hard courts, both facilities have fully stocked pro shops and offer stringing, rental, and matchmaking services.

A wide range of programs cater to every level of skill and to every member of your family or groups, including daily clinics, drills, and private instruction - all at preferred rates to resort guests. Roy Barth brings his outstanding reputation as a professional player and skills as a gifted teacher to every tennis program at Kiawah Island Golf Resort.

Kiawah Island - Ocean Course

Kiawah Island - Ocean Course

Par: 72

Length: 7356 yards

Course designer: Pete Dye

Venue: Ryder Cup

Kiawah Island - Ocean Course

The Ocean Course was the venue for the 1991 “War on the Shore” Ryder Cup, where Bernhard Langer missed a 10-foot putt on the last hole to tie the overall match. The 17th hole is a standout with a 200-yard carry to the semi-island green.

The course is a modern links layout with deep bunkers, waste areas, undulating fairways and dramatic views out over the ocean. It is one of legendary designer Pete Dye’s most famous and intimidating creations.

Kiawah Island - Osprey Point

Kiawah Island - Osprey Point

Par: 72

Length: 6932 yards

Course designer: Tom Fazio

Kiawah Island - Osprey Point

Osprey Point is a favourite of resort guests on Kiawah Island. Renowned course architect Tom Fazio used the natural canvas to create an eminently playable and varied layout. The setting for the course features four large, natural lakes, fingers of saltwater marsh, and dense maritime forests of live oaks, pines, palmettos and magnolias.

The course is very playable for the average golfer. It features generous landing areas and few forced carries. From the proper tees, the course poses appropriate challenges to the better golfers and fairness to the high-handicapper, senior golfers and junior golfers.

Kiawah Island - Turtle Point

Kiawah Island - Turtle Point

Par: 72

Length: 7061 yards

Course designer: Jack Nicklaus

Venue: PGA Cup

Kiawah Island - Turtle Point

This Jack Nicklaus design has hosted several top amateur events and in 1990 hosted the PGA Cup matches, the club professionals' Ryder Cup.

Turtle Point calls for great accuracy and intelligent strategies, with narrow fairway corridors, small greens, strategically placed water hazards and plenty of out-of-bounds.

Players not driving the ball well will struggle for par. Since it is one of the longest courses on the island, proficiency with fairway woods and long irons is a must. So is the ability to scramble and to shape your shots.

Kiawah Island - Cougar Point

Kiawah Island - Cougar Point

Par: 72

Length: 6875 yards

Course designer: Gary Player

Kiawah Island - Cougar Point

Cougar Point features spectacular golf alongside broad expanses of marshland, offering views of the Kiawah River and acres of needlerush and spartina grass.

Originally named Marsh Point, Cougar Point was redesigned by Gary Player in 1996. It features a great blend of short and long par-4s, great risk/reward par-5s and extremely scenic and challenging par-3s. It has become a great strategic layout where players need to think their way around the course. No. 6 has a spectacular view, and No. 17 is considered by many to be one of the prettiest and most challenging golf holes on the island.

Cougar Point was recently awarded a near-perfect 4½ stars in Golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play” reader’s poll.

Kiawah Island - Oak Point

Kiawah Island - Oak Point

Par: 72

Length: 6701 yards

Course designer: Roger Warren

Kiawah Island - Oak Point

Located one mile outside of the Resort, Oak Point is the newest addition to Kiawah. This Scottish-American style course borders the historic Haulover Creek and Kiawah River. Wide areas of fairways stretch alongside salt marshlands interspersed with forested areas of oaks.

Seabrook Island - Ocean Winds

Par: 72

Length: 6765 yards

Course designer: Willard Byrd

Seabrook Island - Ocean Winds

Ocean Winds Golf Course at Seabrook Island, takes you to the Atlantic Ocean where the swirling winds provide a golfing challenge across tight fairways, balanced by generous greens and framed with sun-drenched dunes.

Seabrook Island - Crooked Oaks

Par: 72

Length: 6780 yards

Course designer: Robert Trent Jones Sr.

Seabrook Island - Crooked Oaks

Located just off Kiawah Island on the neighbouring Seabrook Island, Crooked Oaks, winds through marsh, maritime forests and moss-hung, century old oaks.

Crooked Oaks Golf Course is the only course in the area of Charleston with bentgrass greens. The grass makes the greens faster, adding another challenge to an already difficult Jones' run, which he has called one of his best.
