With tropical temperatures year-round, dazzling white beaches, and now spectacular golf courses and resorts, the islands of the Caribbean are among the world’s most sought-after golf holiday destinations.
Visitors to Barbados have a choice of charming hotels at Crystal Cove and Tamarind Hotel, or at the celebrated Sandy Lane Resort in Barbados host to the 2006 World Cup, and also host to the wedding of T Woods. The Green Monkey course is exclusive to Sandy Lane guests or a significant surcharge, but the Country Club and Old Nine at Sandy Lane are open to all golfers.
The Coco Beach Golf course in Puerto Rico plays host to the PGA Tour, and the Dominican Republic’s Punta Espada by Nickluas hosts the Champions Tour, with Norman, Langer and O’Meara all playing.
Leading course designers such as Dye (Dominican Republic), Fazio (Barbados) and Norman (Puerto Rico) have flocked to the islands to put their signature to spectacular and challenging layouts.
The Caribbean resorts are the last word in luxury, hospitality and fine dining. The One & Only Ocean Club on Paradise Island, Bahamas, even got James Bond’s seal of approval after it was used for filming of the smash hit Casino Royale. Caribbean resorts are also particularly family friendly with many offering specially tailored facilities for children.
Weather: The Caribbean enjoys year-round sunshine. Temperatures range from 25 to 35°C (80 to 95°F) daytime. High season is from December to April. From May-November prices generally drop, due to an increased chance of storms, which can also affect southern USA, and Mexico.
