The 19th Lodge

Golf Resort

Hotel

The 19th Lodge is enviably located directly opposite Ballybunion’s famous links, former venue of the Murphy’s Irish Open and a course described by five-time Open Champion Tom Watson as the best test of links golf in the world!

The lodge’s owner has taken great care to create a warm, homely environment which specifically caters for golfers. The guest bar includes golf storage and a drying room. The guestrooms afford views of the Ballybunion Old Course and of the dramatic coastline of Southwest Ireland.

Visitors to the Lodge can also also enjoy Adare Manor, a favourite of Tiger Woods, and the Arnold Palmer-designed Tralee. The 19th Lodge is less than an hour’s drive from Shannon Airport and ideally placed for touring North Kerry.

Local Area

The village of Ballybunion’s sandy beaches and dramatic cliffs make it a popular summer destination for families. Dolphins can sometimes be spotted in the waters off the coast, while the rolling Atlantic waves are popular with surfers. The village has many pubs and amusement arcades. Each year it hosts the Ballybunion International Bachelor Festival in June, a week of music, drink, games and craic.

The lively market town of Listowel, which is only nine miles away, holds a seven-day horse racing festival in September. It also hosts Writers’ Week, an annual literary festival, in June.

Every August nearby Tralee holds the world famous Rose of Tralee festival in which a young woman is chosen as best matching the attributes laid out in the song – ‘”lovely and fair”. It is a beauty pageant with a difference, containing no swimwear section and instead focusing on overall personality. It is billed as a celebration of young women’s “aspirations, ambitions, intellect, social responsibility and Irish heritage”. Whatever your preferences, Kerry and Ballybunion offers a fantastic holiday destination for visiting golfers.

Ballybunion Old

"Having played the Old Course in Ballybunion many times since my first visit in 1981, I am now of the opinion it is one of the best and most beautiful tests of links golf anywhere in the world." Tom Watson - 5 time British Open Winner

Ballybunion is one of the great Irish links courses, expertly maintained with a fair and challenging design on the North West Coast of Co. Kerry.

There are a broad array of shots required with holes having uphill, downhill and side hill lies on the fairways and large sloping greens. The 11th is one of the signature holes, a 446 yard par 4 perched on the cliffs – not for the fainthearted!

Ballybunion Cashen

The Cashen (New) Course at the world-famous Ballybunion offers great links golf set against the coast with great views of the Atlantic Ocean.

The course has some narrow approaches to small greens and really requires your iron play to be precise. “When I first saw the piece of land chosen for the new course of Ballybunion, I was thrilled beyond words. I said that it was the finest piece of links-land that I had ever seen, and perhaps the finest piece of links-land in the world. There is no more natural golf hole in the world than the 10th, an outrageously beautiful stretch of God-given terrain.” - Robert Trent Jones

Adare Manor

Adare Manor Golf Course is a favourite of Tiger Woods and one of the finest courses in Ireland.

Legendary architect Robert Trent Jones Sr designed the course which features rock-walled streams and subtle undulating putting surfaces with the Jones signature clover leaf bunkers. A 14-acre lake dominates the front nine holes while the back nine is routed through wooded land. The River Maigue meanders through the course adding beauty and challenge.

Adare Manor is the venue for a bi-annual charity pro-am hosted by J.P McManus featuring many top professionals such as Tiger, Padraig, Ernie and Michael Campbell.

Tralee

Opened in October 1984, Tralee Golf Course was the first European golf course designed by Arnold Palmer. When he first saw the area upon which his company was to build Tralee golf links, he was ecstatic about the possibilities. "I have never come across a piece of land so ideally suited for the building of a golf course," he said.

He later said of his work, “I may have designed the front 9, but surely God designed the back 9.
