Local Area

"Meia Praia" Beach With soft and white sand, Meia Praia forms the beach of one of the biggest bays in Europe and has a calm sea due to its width. Owing to its lack of rocks it is ideal for nautical sports. When the wind is strong, there are many sheltered sand alcoves between the dunes. The Meia Praia is a Blue Flag beach and it's just at walking distance to the center of Palmares Beach & Golf Resort.

The redesigned Palmares (completed in 2010) golf course features 27 holes of parkland and traditional links. “Palmares Golf Course is special on so many levels. The expansive ocean vistas, dramatic elevation changes, intimate valleys, and expansive dunes gave us an environment from which we could craft a golf course with enormous depth of character and challenge”. Robert Trent Jones Jr Each nine-hole course has its own character: Lagos Course – features the only two lakes of the layout at the short par 3 third and long par 4 sixth. The final holes are played into the expansive dunes on the southwest portion of the layout. Praia Course – set alongside the seaside dunes with full exposure to all of the elements! The four seaside holes are bracketed by the beach and railway line, with the closing hole rising out of the dunes onto an amphitheatre green below the clubhouse. Alvor Course – a parkland layout played through narrow fairways lined with mature pine trees. The majority of the holes feature dramatic elevation changes either ascending hillside or descending through valleys. Palmares has hosted a variety of amateur and professional events including the Europro Tour circuit.
